Bengaluru Launches Helmet Safety Campaign to Combat Traffic Violations

In a proactive move to address the alarming number of road accidents caused by inadequate helmet usage, the Bengaluru Traffic Police, in collaboration with Rotary Bangalore Midtown (RBM), has launched an initiative to distribute ISI-certified helmets to riders and pillion passengers using substandard or half helmets. This campaign, which targets six high-traffic locations in the city, is part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety standards on Bengaluru’s roads. The initiative involves identifying and replacing non-compliant helmets with ISI-marked helmets, ensuring that riders are adequately protected in case of an accident.
On a single day—Monday—the campaign successfully distributed 165 helmets at four major locations: Cubbon Park Metro Station, Mehkri Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, and Corporation Circle. These areas were selected due to high rates of traffic violations, particularly concerning helmet usage. By partnering with RBM volunteers, the Traffic Police ensured that helmets were distributed only to those wearing non-ISI or substandard helmets. The campaign has generated significant attention, with plans for further surprise distributions at various locations across the city, although the details remain undisclosed.
