Bengaluru Hotel Pool Deaths Trigger Police Probe After Electrocution

Two foreign nationals died and two others were injured after an alleged electrical shock at a hotel swimming pool near Halasuru in Bengaluru, prompting a police investigation into the incident.

The deceased were citizens of Germany and Slovakia, according to a report by Prajavani. The incident occurred while the two were in the swimming pool on the third floor of the Conrad hotel near Halasuru.

The circumstances of the deaths are being investigated. The report said the two foreign nationals were suspected to have died after coming into contact with an electrical current in the pool area. The available report does not establish the specific source of the electrical fault or whether the current originated in the pool equipment, lighting, wiring or another facility connected to the swimming area.

An American national staying at the hotel and a member of the hotel’s swimming-pool staff were injured when they attempted to rescue the two people, the report said. Both injured people were taken to Manipal Hospital for treatment.

The two injured people were reported to be out of danger. The incident therefore involved not only the two deaths but also injuries to people who entered the area during the rescue effort.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are continuing their investigation, according to the report. The police inquiry is expected to establish the sequence of events, examine the safety conditions at the swimming pool and determine how the alleged electrical contact occurred.

Swimming pools in hotels and other commercial buildings rely on electrical systems for filtration, pumping, lighting and related operations. Any failure in equipment, insulation, grounding or protection systems can create a serious risk in an environment where people are in direct contact with water. The information available in the report, however, does not identify which component may have failed in this case.

The incident also highlights the immediate safety implications of rescue attempts in a suspected electrical emergency. The injury to the hotel staff member and the American guest underscores the danger of entering a water area before the electrical supply has been isolated and the site has been made safe. Whether those procedures were followed at the hotel remains part of the investigation.

No further details about the identities of the deceased, the medical findings, the police case sections or any action against the hotel were provided in the report. The police investigation remains underway.
