BBMP officials in Bengaluru’s Dasarahalli Assembly constituency have been given 15 days to improve their response to development works and public issues, failing which MLA S. Muniraju has warned of a protest outside the municipal office in Dasarahalli.
Muniraju issued the warning during a progress review meeting held in Bagalagunte, where officials and representatives discussed development works and various civic problems in the constituency. The constituency falls within the jurisdiction of the northern and western areas of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.
The MLA said officials had not responded adequately despite being informed about the need to speed up development works. He alleged that funds were not being released for development by the Congress government and that even the funds available were not being used effectively.
Muniraju further alleged that projects were being delayed on the grounds that fresh tenders had to be called, instead of being taken forward through timely procurement and execution. The remarks were made in the presence of BBMP North Zone Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, Joint Commissioner Pallavi and Chief Engineer Yamuna.
The dispute highlights the administrative link between elected representatives, civic officials and the tendering process in Bengaluru’s municipal works. While the MLA’s remarks identify delays in funding, tendering and execution as concerns, the report does not provide project-wise details, the value of the funds involved or the specific works said to be pending.
Muniraju said the 15-day period would be used to assess whether officials had changed their approach and accelerated work in the constituency. If the situation does not improve, he said, a protest would be held outside the municipal office in Dasarahalli. No separate response from the BBMP officials named at the meeting was provided in the report.
