Ayodhya Tele-ICU to Link Medical College with SGPGI Lucknow

Ayodhya’s Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College will soon be linked to Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, under a proposed tele-ICU system intended to support doctors treating critically ill patients remotely.

The announcement was made by Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister and medical education minister Brajesh Pathak during the valedictory session of the third national conference of the Indian Society of Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine in Ayodhya. The three-day conference brought together more than 200 doctors and postgraduate residents from across the country.

Under the proposed hub-and-spoke model, specialists based at SGPGI will monitor critically ill patients admitted to the Ayodhya medical college’s intensive care unit through a central control room. The specialists will also interact with doctors at the local medical college and provide guidance on treatment protocols and clinical management when required.

Officials said Ayodhya would become the seventh medical college in Uttar Pradesh to be connected to the SGPGI hub under the tele-ICU model. The announcement places the Ayodhya facility within a wider specialist-support network in which expertise from a tertiary-care institution can be made available to doctors managing complex cases at another medical college.

The proposed connection is part of a broader plan to strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the Ayodhya medical college. The measures announced include the establishment of neurology, nephrology and gastroenterology departments, along with a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. The plan also includes residential accommodation for medical and paramedical staff.

The announcement did not specify when the tele-ICU connection would become operational or provide details of the equipment, staffing arrangements and funding required for the additional departments and cardiac facility. The next implementation steps will determine how the proposed remote-monitoring system is integrated with the Ayodhya ICU and its local clinical teams.
