Two people died in separate railway accidents near Asangaon station in Shahapur on Friday, with one struck by the Pushpak Express while crossing the tracks and another falling while boarding a Kasara local, according to a report by Loksatta – Thane.
The first incident took place between Asangaon and Atgaon during the morning. Deep Gholap, 19, from Cherpoli, was crossing the railway tracks when he was hit by the Pushpak Express travelling towards Mumbai. He suffered critical injuries and died at the spot.
Railway police were informed after the collision and reached the location. The deceased’s body was taken into custody for further proceedings, the report said. The incident occurred outside the station area, between Asangaon and Atgaon.
The second incident was reported at Asangaon railway station at around 4 pm. Nivritti Sable, 66, from Kasara, was attempting to board a Kasara-bound local train when he lost his balance and fell below the train. He sustained serious injuries in the fall and died.
An accidental death report has been registered at the Asangaon railway police station in connection with Sable’s death. The two incidents occurred on the same day but involved different circumstances: the first was a collision involving a passenger train and a person crossing the tracks, while the second involved a passenger falling while boarding a local train.
The deaths were reported from the Asangaon station area, which serves passengers travelling between the Shahapur and Kasara region and the wider Mumbai suburban rail network. The incidents prompted concern in the Asangaon area, according to the report.
Railway police proceedings in both cases will determine the formal details recorded for the deaths. The report did not provide information about any service disruption, railway announcement or further action by the railway authorities.
