Apple to Power Indian Operations with Solar Ventures

In a pivotal move towards sustainability and renewable energy adoption, tech giant Apple has announced a joint venture with CleanMax, a leading renewable energy developer, to invest in rooftop solar projects across India.

This partnership marks Apple’s commitment to powering its Indian operations with clean energy solutions. Under the agreement, Apple and CleanMax will collaborate on six rooftop solar projects with a total capacity of 14.4 megawatts. These solar installations will serve as a localised power solution to meet the energy needs of Apple’s offices and retail stores in Mumbai and New Delhi. While specific financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed, the venture underscores Apple’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting environmental stewardship. This initiative aligns with Apple’s broader mission to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by the end of the decade. With more than 18 gigawatts of clean electricity already powering its global operations and manufacturing supply chain, Apple has tripled its clean energy capacity since 2020. The company’s commitment to clean energy extends beyond its own operations, as evidenced by its efforts to replenish freshwater resources in water-stressed regions like Telangana and Maharashtra.

In India, Apple has made significant strides in water stewardship, achieving 100 percent water replenishment for its corporate operations through partnerships with organisations like the Uptime Catalyst Facility. Through these initiatives, Apple has provided millions of gallons of clean drinking water to communities and demonstrated its commitment to responsible water management practices. Moreover, Apple’s dedication to environmental sustainability extends to its global facilities, such as the Prineville data centre in Oregon, which became the first-ever facility certified to the Alliance for Water Stewardship International Water Stewardship Standard. Additionally, Apple has facilitated water stewardship training for its supplier sites in India and China, promoting responsible water management practices across its supply chain. Overall, Apple’s partnership with CleanMax represents a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy landscape, underscoring the growing importance of sustainable practices in the technology sector and paving the way for further innovation and collaboration in the pursuit of a greener future.
