Andheri Traffic Crackdown Penalises 450 Rickshaw Drivers

Andheri traffic police penalised around 450 autorickshaw drivers during a crackdown outside Andheri railway station on Tuesday, as personnel moved to regulate vehicle movement around the busy transport hub. The enforcement drive began early in the morning and continued into the afternoon, according to a senior traffic police official cited by Mid-Day.

The action targeted autorickshaw drivers and other motorists found violating traffic rules near the station. Police said the operation was intended to keep traffic movement in check in an area where large volumes of commuters, public transport vehicles and other road users converge.

The official did not specify the individual violations recorded or the penalties imposed on the drivers. The reported action covered around 450 autorickshaw drivers during Tuesday’s operation, making it one of the larger enforcement drives reported around the station in recent weeks.

Andheri railway station is a major interchange for Mumbai commuters, and the roads outside it experience concentrated movement during the day. Autorickshaws form an important part of the station’s last-mile transport network, but vehicle positioning and movement around station approaches can also affect traffic circulation and access for other road users.

The crackdown is scheduled to continue throughout the week. Traffic personnel are expected to maintain a close watch on vehicles operating around the station and take action against motorists and autorickshaw drivers found violating traffic rules, the official said.
