Ahmedabad: In a stringent enforcement drive, the solid waste management department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed 59 shops in the eastern parts of the city over a span of two days, Thursday and Friday, for violations related to littering and the use of banned plastics. This crackdown resulted in the collection of Rs 1.77 lakh in fines.
Prominent establishments among the sealed shops include Jay Ambe Snacks and Patel Soda Shop in Maninagar, and China King in Isanpur. This decisive action underscores the AMC’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and enforcing environmental regulations.
In a parallel operation on Friday, the AMC’s solid waste management department inspected 80 shops in the western parts of Ahmedabad. Notices were issued to 72 of these establishments for similar violations, and five kilograms of prohibited plastic items were confiscated. This comprehensive approach highlights the civic body’s resolve to extend its regulatory reach across the entire city. The AMC’s recent initiatives are part of a broader campaign to enhance urban hygiene and environmental compliance. By targeting both littering and the use of banned plastics, the AMC aims to mitigate the adverse effects of improper waste disposal and plastic pollution.
These enforcement actions serve as a stern reminder to business owners about the importance of adhering to municipal regulations. The AMC’s efforts are crucial in fostering a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment, aligning with broader public health and environmental objectives. As the AMC continues its vigilance, further measures are expected to ensure that businesses comply with waste management and plastic use regulations, thereby contributing to the city’s overall cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
