Ambuja Cements Unveils Rs 14,500 Crore Expansion Plan

Ambuja Cements will invest around Rs 14,500 crore to add 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of cement capacity across India by FY30, expanding its manufacturing network across western, eastern and northern markets.

The company currently has an installed cement capacity of 113.5MTPA and is targeting 155MTPA by FY30. The planned expansion will combine new grinding units with clinker manufacturing facilities, bringing production closer to major consumption centres.

The proposed additions include 15.5MTPA of grinding capacity in the western region, 11.6MTPA in the east and 2.9MTPA in the north. On the clinker side, Ambuja plans a 4MTPA facility at Umrangso in Assam, along with a 4MTPA unit at Maratha and a 2.3MTPA unit at Mundra in the western region.

The company expects the expanded network to shorten transportation distances and improve integration between clinker production and cement grinding. These changes are intended to lower operating costs as Ambuja targets a cement manufacturing cost of Rs 4,000 per tonne by FY28.

“Every capacity addition should strengthen the competitiveness of the overall business,” Vinod Bahety, CEO, Cement Business, Adani Group, was quoted as saying. He said the expansion would improve logistics efficiency and create a more balanced manufacturing network.

Ambuja has already added 4.6MTPA of cement capacity during the first half of FY27. This includes a 1.2MTPA brownfield expansion at Dahej in Gujarat, a 2.4MTPA grinding unit at Salai Banwa in Uttar Pradesh and a 1MTPA expansion at Kalamboli in Maharashtra.

The company’s immediate expansion pipeline includes a 1.2MTPA grinding unit at Bathinda in Punjab and a 2MTPA integrated unit at Jodhpur Penna in Rajasthan. Both are expected to ramp up operations during the second half of FY27. A 2.4MTPA grinding unit at Warisaliganj in Bihar is also scheduled for commissioning during the same period.

These projects are expected to take Ambuja’s total cement capacity to 119MTPA by March 2027. Since its acquisition, the company has completed 11 capacity expansion projects, adding 16.3MTPA of cement capacity and 9MTPA of clinker capacity up to September 30, 2026.

The planned investment will extend Ambuja’s manufacturing footprint across several regions while increasing the company’s ability to supply cement closer to construction and infrastructure markets. The next immediate milestone is the expected ramp-up of the Bathinda and Jodhpur Penna facilities, alongside commissioning of the Warisaliganj unit, during the second half of FY27.
