Ambegaon Water Shortage Plan Prepares For 65 Tankers

Ambegaon taluka in Pune district has prepared a water and fodder shortage response plan for the period from October 1, 2026, to June 2027, with officials recording a possible requirement for 65 water tankers and promising that funding will not hold back implementation.

The plan was discussed at a review meeting held at the Panchayat Samiti hall in Ghodegaon against the expected shortage of water and fodder in the taluka. Former Maharashtra minister Dilip Walse Patil said the administration had prepared a comprehensive plan to address the shortage during the specified period and that all necessary funds and assistance would be made available.

According to the report, the plan includes taking wells under acquisition where required, repairing borewells and existing wells, drilling new borewells and arranging tanker-based water supply. The estimate of 65 tankers has been included in the plan as a possible requirement during the shortage period.

The response also covers livestock and agricultural needs. The animal husbandry department is expected to arrange fodder and water for animals, while the agriculture department will provide fertilisers and seeds to farmers for fodder production on an urgent basis. Strengthening water sources has been identified as a specific priority in the plan.

The announcement is significant because the proposed response combines emergency supply measures with repairs and expansion of local water infrastructure. Tankers are intended to address immediate supply gaps, while well and borewell work is aimed at increasing the availability and reliability of local sources. The report does not specify the villages that may require tanker supply, the proposed tanker routes, the estimated cost of the plan or the sources from which the funds will be released.

The review meeting was attended by Archana Tambe, sub-divisional officer for Junnar-Ambegaon, Sunil Joshi, sub-divisional officer for Shirur-Haveli, Ambegaon tehsildar Rahul Sarang and Shirur tehsildar Balasaheb Mhaske. Panchayat Samiti chairperson Kailasbuva Kale, deputy chairperson Jyoti Pardhi, sub-divisional police officer Amol Mandave, block development officer Pramila Walunj and Shirur block development officer Mahesh Doke were also present.

Representatives and former office-bearers of the Panchayat Samiti and social welfare bodies also attended the meeting. The administration’s next steps, as outlined in the plan, are to implement measures covering water supply, source repairs, new borewell drilling, livestock support and fodder production through June 2027.
