The state has launched a series of development projects worth Rs 58,000 crore, marking a new chapter in the state’s growth trajectory.
A substantial portion of this investment, approximately Rs 49,000 crore, is dedicated to the construction of Amaravati, the state’s greenfield capital city. The ambitious plan includes the development of key governmental structures such as the state Assembly, High Court, Secretariat, and residential quarters for judicial staff. Additionally, housing for 5,200 families is planned, aiming to create a comprehensive urban ecosystem. The infrastructure blueprint for Amaravati encompasses a 320-kilometre world-class transport grid, integrating subsurface utilities and advanced flood management systems. The land pooling infrastructure project will feature 1,281 kilometres of roads equipped with central medians, cycle lanes, and sophisticated utilities, aligning with the vision of a sustainable and eco-friendly capital.
Beyond the capital city’s development, the state has approved nine central government projects totaling ₹5,028 crore. Notably, a ₹1,459 crore Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) missile testing site is set to be established in Nagayalanka, Krishna district. This facility will include a launch complex, radar installations, electro-optical systems, and telemetry stations, enhancing India’s strategic defence capabilities. In Visakhapatnam, a ₹100 crore Unity Mall is planned to promote national unity and support the ‘One District One Product’ initiative, fostering local artisans and rural employment. The mall aims to serve as a hub for showcasing regional crafts and products, contributing to the state’s economic diversification.
Transportation infrastructure is also receiving a significant boost. A ₹293 crore rail overbridge at Guntakal Mallappa Gate is underway to alleviate freight congestion and improve rail connectivity. Furthermore, six national highway projects worth ₹3,176 crore have been initiated to widen roadways, construct elevated corridors, and reduce traffic bottlenecks, enhancing the state’s logistical efficiency. The rail sector sees additional investments with three projects totaling ₹254 crore, focusing on line doubling and tripling, as well as the development of a rail-over-rail facility between Guntakal West and Mallappa Gate. These projects aim to streamline rail operations and support the growing demand for freight and passenger transport.
To bolster tourism and regional connectivity, eight national highway projects amounting to ₹3,860 crore have been launched. These projects will improve access to religious and tourist destinations such as Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Malakonda, and Udayagiri Fort, facilitating economic growth through increased visitor footfall. The comprehensive development strategy reflects a commitment to creating a zero-net carbon, eco-friendly, and sustainable urban environment. By integrating advanced infrastructure with environmental considerations, Andhra Pradesh aims to set a precedent for equitable and inclusive city planning.
As these projects progress, they are expected to generate employment opportunities, stimulate economic activity, and position Andhra Pradesh as a model for sustainable urban development in India. The state’s focus on infrastructure, defence, and connectivity underscores its dedication to fostering a resilient and prosperous future for its citizens.
