An Akasa Air flight from Ahmedabad to Kolkata was grounded at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport after a post-landing inspection detected that the aircraft’s tail section had made contact with the ground. All passengers disembarked safely, while the airline began a technical investigation and informed the relevant authorities.
Flight QP 1925, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, carried out a go-around during its landing at Kolkata before landing safely at approximately 7.40am on Saturday, according to information reported by the Times of India. An Akasa Air spokesperson said all passengers disembarked safely after the aircraft reached the airport.
The aircraft was subsequently inspected after the flight. The post-flight check found evidence of a tail strike, in which the rear fuselage of an aircraft comes into contact with the runway during landing or take-off. The airline said the aircraft remained parked at Kolkata airport for a detailed technical inspection.
Akasa Air said it had informed the relevant authorities in accordance with established safety protocols. The airline did not disclose the extent of any damage and did not specify when the aircraft would return to service.
A tail strike requires technical assessment before an aircraft can resume operations because contact between the rear fuselage and the runway can require checks for possible structural damage. In this case, the aircraft was grounded after the landing rather than continuing in service, pending the inspection.
The incident involved a flight originating in Ahmedabad and arriving in Kolkata. The airline’s statement confirmed that the landing was completed safely after the go-around and that passengers were able to leave the aircraft. No passenger injuries were reported in the supplied account.
The investigation and technical inspection will determine the condition of the aircraft and the next operational steps. The aircraft will remain parked at Kolkata airport until the required assessment is completed and the airline receives clearance under applicable safety procedures.
