Airport Express Line Hit by Fresh Defacement, Police Register Case

A fresh case of alleged defacement has been registered on Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line after black-ink writing and a poster were found near emergency gates at Shivaji Stadium Metro Station on October 24, days after a separate incident was reported on the same corridor.

According to a complaint filed by the station controller at Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, a Central Industrial Security Force sub-inspector informed him at around 11 am that a message written in black ink had been found on a shaft wall near Emergency Gate No. 7. A poster was also found pasted on a wall near Emergency Gate No. 5.

The station controller visited both locations with housekeeping staff, photographed the affected walls and informed senior officers about the incident, according to the complaint. The writing was later erased and the poster was removed from the station premises.

The complainant sought action against the unidentified person responsible for the alleged defacement. Following the complaint, the IGI Airport Metro police registered a case on October 24 under Section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, and Section 62(2) of the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002.

The case comes days after two posters carrying political criticism were found pasted on a seat inside a train operating on the Airport Express Line. That earlier incident had also resulted in a police case. Two other posters were found at Yashobhoomi Metro Station on October 20, according to the report.

The latest complaint places the new incident at Shivaji Stadium station, one of the stations on the Airport Express corridor serving central Delhi and the airport route. The complaint records the locations of the writing and poster, the inspection carried out by station personnel and the subsequent removal of the material.

The police case has been registered against an unidentified person. The available information does not identify a suspect or state whether arrests have been made. It also does not establish whether the latest message or poster was connected to the earlier political posters found on the line.

The immediate response recorded in the complaint was operational: station staff documented the affected areas, informed senior officials, erased the writing and removed the poster. The case will now proceed under the two provisions cited by the IGI Airport Metro police.
