Bengaluru Police have arrested a migrant worker from Bihar, identified as Ali, for allegedly creating and posting an AI-generated video showing a bomb blast at Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka’s legislature building. Police said no real blast occurred and described the clip as synthetic.
The video went viral on October 20 after being shared from an Instagram account identified as “Jnx king Hg”. It showed Vidhana Soudha being destroyed in an explosion after a person appeared to mime pulling a trigger. A caption accompanying the post allegedly claimed that the person had blown up the building.
The fabricated footage prompted outrage online, with users tagging Bengaluru Police and demanding action. Following complaints, an FIR is being registered, according to the report, while the Instagram account has been deactivated.
Vidhana Soudha is a high-security government building that houses the Karnataka state legislature. The circulation of an apparently realistic attack video involving the building raised security and public-order concerns, even though authorities said there had been no actual explosion or physical attack.
Police are interrogating the accused to ascertain his motive. The report does not provide details of the specific sections under which the FIR is being registered or indicate whether further arrests have been made.
The case highlights the immediate operational challenge posed by synthetic media in urban public spaces and around sensitive government sites. A digitally fabricated video can spread rapidly before residents, emergency services or security agencies establish whether the depicted event is real. In this instance, the police response followed complaints and the reported deactivation of the account.
Police have warned against using artificial intelligence to create threatening content. Further details, including the status of the FIR and the outcome of the interrogation, are awaited.
