Ahmedabad Water Pressure Fix Gets ₹4.86 Crore Bodakdev Upgrade

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has approved a ₹4.86 crore upgrade to improve water pressure in parts of the Bodakdev ward, including Vastrapur, Helmet Circle and Memnagar, where residents have reported inadequate supply pressure. The work will replace ageing electrical and mechanical machinery at the Bodakdev ADB and Bodakdev Trilok water distribution stations.

The proposal covers SITC work, along with civil work, at both distribution stations. The approval follows complaints and representations from residents about water reaching some areas at insufficient pressure. The municipal decision places the immediate focus on upgrading the equipment responsible for distributing water from the two stations.

Water Supply and Sewerage Committee chairman Dharamshi Desai said the existing machinery at the Bodakdev ADB and Bodakdev Trilok stations had become old and corroded. He said the equipment had originally been installed during the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority period and that its capacity had reduced over time.

According to Desai, the reduced capacity of the machinery has affected the ability of the two stations to supply water at adequate pressure. As a result, several parts of the Bodakdev ward have been receiving water at very low pressure. The approved proposal will replace the old machinery with new electrical and mechanical systems.

The affected locations include residential and mixed-use areas around Vastrapur, Helmet Circle and Memnagar. The announcement does not specify the construction schedule, the expected increase in pressure, or whether residents will face temporary changes to water-supply timings while the work is carried out. Those details will determine how quickly the approved expenditure translates into an improvement at household level.

The report also said the civic body has planned a tree-plantation programme at the Bhadaj gauchar plot as part of its campaign for a greener Ahmedabad. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to participate in the plantation programme. The event is also linked to the stated target of completing the Mission Five Million Trees initiative.

For the water-supply project, the next operational step is the implementation of the approved machinery replacement and associated civil work at the two Bodakdev distribution stations. The civic administration has not announced a completion deadline in the information available.
