The deployment of the Pelican Signal System allows pedestrians to request a dedicated crossing phase through a push-button mechanism that temporarily halts vehicle movement. Widely used in several global cities, the technology is designed to provide safer crossing opportunities on busy roads where continuous traffic flow can create challenges for vulnerable road users. Urban mobility specialists note that pedestrian infrastructure has historically received less attention than vehicle-oriented road development in many Indian cities.
