Ahmedabad Rajdhani Cancelled Over Delhi Protest Traffic Risks

The Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarn Jayanti Rajdhani Express has been cancelled for travel linked to October 10 after the Indian Railways prepared a contingency plan in view of protests, possible road blockades and traffic congestion in the national capital.

Train number 12957, operating from Sabarmati station in Ahmedabad to New Delhi, is among the mail and express services cancelled from their originating stations. The cancellation applies to trains scheduled to reach New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10.

The decision follows a traffic advisory indicating the possibility of heavy congestion and road closures around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations during that period. The reported plan is intended to reduce the risk of passengers being unable to reach stations because of disruptions on roads leading to the terminals.

The railway decision also refers to difficulties faced by passengers during a recent protest. According to the report, around 5,000 passengers were unable to reach stations on time and missed their trains after roads were blocked during the earlier disruption. The latest cancellations have been announced as a preventive measure for passenger safety and convenience.

The trains listed as fully cancelled from their originating stations on October 9 are train 12247 from Bandra Terminus to Hazrat Nizamuddin, train 12957 from Sabarmati to New Delhi, train 20155 from Dr Ambedkar Nagar to New Delhi, train 09309 from Indore to Hazrat Nizamuddin and train 12415 from Indore to New Delhi.

The cancellation of train 12957 means passengers booked to travel from Ahmedabad towards New Delhi on the affected service will not be able to use the scheduled Rajdhani operation. The report does not provide details of alternative services, refunds or rescheduling arrangements for affected passengers.

Railway authorities have advised passengers to check their train status before leaving home. Travellers have also been asked to use the railway helpline or the official railway website for the latest information, including any changes to train operations.

The reported contingency plan also includes rescheduling of some services, although the supplied information does not identify the trains whose departure times will be changed. Passengers travelling to Delhi on October 10 have therefore been advised to confirm their individual service status before beginning their journey.
