A major highway expansion connecting Ahmedabad with Mehsana has moved into the next stage of development, signalling progress on a strategic transport corridor that supports industrial activity, commuter movement and regional economic integration across North Gujarat. The project is expected to enhance road capacity, reduce congestion and improve connectivity between rapidly growing urban and industrial centres.
The infrastructure scheme proposes a substantial capacity upgrade along the Ahmedabad–Mehsana route, one of the region’s most heavily used road corridors. Following the completion of the bidding process, authorities have begun the evaluation and administrative procedures required before construction contracts can be awarded. A key component of the project involves widening the highway to accommodate increasing traffic demand generated by industrial growth, freight movement and expanding residential development along the corridor. The proposal also includes an elevated road structure through Kalol, a location that has experienced persistent traffic bottlenecks due to the convergence of local and long-distance traffic. Transport planners view the project as an important investment in regional mobility infrastructure. The planned elevated section is designed to separate through-traffic from local urban movement, helping ease congestion in densely developed areas.
