Police in Ahmedabad have registered a complaint against three people accused of defrauding a 42-year-old Bodakdev businessman of Rs 58.92 crore by promising to resolve land disputes and offer profits from a proposed construction scheme, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.
The complainant, identified as Chintanbhai Rajendrabhai Rami, told police that he invested in land and the share market and had contacted Deepakbhai Hirpara, Harshal Hirpara and Jignesh Hirpara in February 2022. The three men were described in the complaint as being involved in construction and land-clearance work in Bodakdev.
According to the complaint, the accused assured Rami that they would resolve disputes affecting his land. To meet the related expenses, a property was allegedly agreed to be sold for Rs 40 crore. The complainant said that after the documents were executed, he received about Rs 25 crore, while the remaining Rs 15 crore was retained by the accused on the stated basis that it would be used for cash payments connected with clearing the land. The complaint also alleges that the accused obtained vouchers bearing the complainant’s signatures.
During October 2022 and 2023, the parties allegedly entered into another arrangement involving 56,000 square yards of land. The total value of that land was fixed at Rs 120 crore, with the complainant’s share valued at Rs 60 crore. According to the complaint, only Rs 33 crore was paid, leaving Rs 27 crore outstanding.
The complainant further alleged that, in transactions involving other survey numbers, Rs 16,92,16,487 remained unpaid out of a stated amount of Rs 36,84,99,487. When he sought the outstanding amounts, the accused allegedly told him that the money would instead be treated as an investment in a new construction scheme on the land and that he would receive substantial profits.
Rami told police that he relied on this assurance and allowed documents relating to the properties to be executed in the accused persons’ names. However, he alleged that no written agreement confirming the proposed investment was provided after the documents were completed. He also said repeated requests for the outstanding payments and investment records were refused.
The complaint alleges that the accused later showed Rs 90 crore as expenses incurred for clearing the land, which Rami described as false. The total amount allegedly retained for the accused persons’ personal benefit was stated in the complaint as Rs 58,92,16,487.
The case centres on allegations arising from property transfers, unpaid consideration, disputed land-clearance expenses and an undocumented promise of profit from a future construction scheme. The police complaint does not establish the allegations as proven, and the accused persons’ response was not included in the supplied report. Further investigation will determine the circumstances of the transactions and the flow of money and property documents.
