Ahmedabad’s ₹464-crore elevated corridor between ISKCON Junction and Sarkhej Cross Road is ready for traffic and is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 9 by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, according to a report by Sandesh. The project is intended to reduce signal delays on one of the city’s busiest stretches of the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway.
The elevated route runs from the ISKCON junction to Sarkhej Cross Road, allowing vehicles to bypass several intersections and traffic signals along the corridor. Sandesh reported that the project has been completed with provisions for heavy traffic volumes, modern lighting and safety-related infrastructure.
The corridor is expected to benefit commuters travelling between Sarkhej, Ahmedabad, the SG Highway, Bopal, Sanand and Gandhinagar. According to the report, motorists currently face delays of between 15 and 25 minutes at junctions and signals between ISKCON and Sarkhej, particularly during peak travel periods.
Once opened, vehicles using the elevated section will be able to travel through the stretch without stopping at the intervening signals. The report said the elevated route is expected to shorten the time required to cover the distance and reduce fuel consumption for regular users. It did not provide a separate operational schedule, traffic diversion plan or details of access and exit points.
The corridor is being opened on a route that carries daily commuter, commercial and inter-city traffic. Its impact will depend on how traffic is distributed between the elevated section and the roads below, including how local traffic accesses junctions and properties along the SG Highway. The source report did not provide traffic forecasts or post-opening operating arrangements.
The inauguration is part of a wider programme of development works planned for Ahmedabad city and district. Sandesh reported that projects valued at approximately ₹700 crore are expected to be inaugurated, while projects worth about ₹300 crore are scheduled for foundation-laying, taking the total value of the announced works to ₹1,000 crore.
A public gathering is also planned as part of the November 9 programme, with preparations reportedly under way by the administration and the organising authorities. The source report did not specify the names, locations or implementation timelines of the other projects included in the programme.
The elevated corridor’s scheduled opening will provide the next formal milestone for the ISKCON–Sarkhej section. Further operational details, including traffic management arrangements and the precise opening schedule, are expected to be communicated in connection with the inauguration.
