The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demonstrated its commitment to cleanliness and sanitation through a comprehensive deep-clean operation that yielded impressive results over a period of one month.
With a focused approach and concerted efforts, the civic body successfully collected a total of 102 metric tonnes of debris, alongside managing 70 metric tonnes of garbage and 25 metric tonnes of large items. The scale of the clean-up endeavour extended beyond mere debris collection, with the BMC also undertaking the cleaning of a substantial 634 kilometres of roads across various areas in Mumbai. This meticulous approach underscores the BMC’s dedication to enhancing the city’s overall cleanliness and hygiene standards. The deep-clean drive, which continued with unwavering determination, encompassed a range of activities aimed at revitalising Mumbai’s urban landscape. Apart from ensuring dust-free roads and footpaths, the initiative included the disposal of abandoned vehicles, enforcement actions against unlicensed hoardings, sanitation efforts in public toilets, and the removal of hazardous wire nets, among other tasks.
To execute this ambitious undertaking, the BMC mobilised a formidable workforce comprising 1,555 dedicated workers, complemented by a fleet of 175 vehicles and machines. The deployment of resources in key areas such as Maharshi Karve Marg, Charni Road Station, Andheri Subway Marg, Andheri Ghatkopar Junction Road, and Sakinaka Metro station reflects the strategic approach adopted by the civic body to target high-traffic zones and areas prone to accumulation of debris and waste. The success of the BMC’s deep-clean initiative serves as a testament to the effectiveness of proactive measures in addressing urban sanitation challenges.
