Rajasthan Set For Major Boost As Delhi Ahmedabad Bullet Train To Traverse Seven Districts 335 Villages

Rajasthan is poised for a significant transformation in its connectivity and economic landscape as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train project awaits central government approval. This ambitious 875-kilometre high-speed rail corridor will traverse seven districts and 335 villages across the state, promising to slash travel time between Delhi and Ahmedabad from 14 hours to just 3-4 hours. The project is set to dramatically enhance tourism and regional development, making major heritage cities far more accessible.

Of the entire high-speed rail route, a substantial 657 kilometres will lie within Rajasthan. The train is planned to pass through Alwar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, and Dungarpur. According to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited, nine of the eleven proposed stations along the corridor will be located within Rajasthan, including key cities like Jaipur, Ajmer, and Udaipur. This extensive coverage is expected to provide a major impetus to the state’s tourism sector by offering faster travel options for both general commuters and tourists.

The bullet train, designed to operate at speeds up to 350 kilometres per hour, will navigate various terrains, including tunnels, bridges, and hilly areas, while crossing five major rivers. Beyond passenger transport, the project is anticipated to significantly boost regional economies by improving connectivity to popular travel destinations. Although Jodhpur, a prominent tourist city, is not included in this corridor, Rajasthan is already set to host India’s first dedicated 60-kilometre high-speed test track between Gudha Salt and Thathana Mithdi, where future bullet train trials will be conducted, further cementing the state’s role in the nation’s high-speed rail future.

This infrastructure initiative fosters a new era of sustainable and efficient travel, significantly reducing carbon emissions from traditional transport. It promises to unlock economic potential by connecting major hubs with historical sites, driving equitable development across regions. The project underscores a commitment to modernizing India’s transport network for future generations.
