The trial run of the Bandikui-Jaipur Expressway has officially commenced. This new expressway segment, designed to integrate with the larger Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor, is set to drastically reduce travel time between the national capital and the Pink City. For a period of 10 days, the newly built 66.91-km stretch will be toll-free, giving motorists a first-hand experience of the upgraded high-speed connectivity infrastructure.
Built with a projected cost of ₹1,368 crore, the access-controlled Bandikui-Jaipur Expressway is a four-lane facility developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The corridor aims to shift the travel paradigm from the heavily congested NH-48 route to a faster, safer, and more sustainable alternative. With a maximum permissible speed of 120 km/h, the expressway is expected to cut travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to approximately 2.5 to 3 hours—nearly halving the usual 5 to 6-hour journey. Officials associated with the infrastructure rollout say the expressway has been completed ahead of schedule, and its inauguration marks a new benchmark in transport efficiency and engineering delivery. The route connects Bandikui directly to the Jaipur Ring Road, with five major interchanges planned along its length. Currently, the Khuri Interchange is fully operational, offering connectivity with the Manoharpur-Kauthun highway, while other access points are expected to come online soon.
What makes this development more significant is its direct link to India’s ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project—a central pillar in the nation’s infrastructure vision aimed at reducing logistics costs, boosting industrial access, and facilitating rapid regional development. The Bandikui-Jaipur segment effectively closes a crucial gap in that corridor, enabling seamless movement from the financial capital to the northern plains. In terms of user experience, the expressway has been designed for hassle-free movement. Vehicles equipped with FASTag will be able to pass through automated toll booths without stopping, minimising delays. Though tolls will be levied after the 10-day trial window, the pricing has already been made public for transparency. The toll is expected to be ₹150 for the Jaipur–Bandikui stretch, ₹550–₹560 for Jaipur–Bandikui–Sohna, and ₹130 for the Sohna–Gurugram leg, totalling ₹680–₹690 for a full Delhi–Jaipur trip via the new route.
In keeping with the standards of expressway travel, the route will not be open to certain vehicle categories. Motorcycles, tractors, and other slow-moving or unregistered vehicles will be restricted from using the corridor during the trial period and likely beyond, in order to preserve traffic safety and maintain flow efficiency. From a sustainability lens, the expressway offers the potential to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by shortening travel time and easing the stop-and-go patterns common on the existing NH-48. Transport experts have often pointed out that access-controlled highways offer better fuel economy and lower vehicular wear and tear, contributing positively to the environment and the economy.
