Bengaluru Airport City Launches Global Innovation Hub
Boosting India’s innovation landscape, the Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL), and tech accelerator ANSR have jointly launched District I, a Global Innovation Hub, within the Business Park at Bengaluru Airport City. Touted as a transformative move, the hub aims to catalyse deep-tech entrepreneurship and drive enterprise-led innovation in critical sectors.
According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), District I will function as a central platform where Global Capability Centers (GCCs), IT service providers, corporate labs, accelerators, startups, academia, venture capitalists, and public institutions can collaborate in a unified ecosystem. By fostering high-level partnerships across sectors, the project seeks to bridge technological gaps and fast-track the development of next-generation solutions.
With a focus on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing, and immersive customer experience platforms, District I will promote innovation in sectors where Bengaluru already holds global recognition. These include aerospace, defence, telecommunications, space tech, smart cities, BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), retail, and manufacturing.
The newly launched Global Innovation Hub, District I, will anchor the 28 million sq. ft. Business Park in Bengaluru Airport City. Positioned as a future-ready, mixed-use urban space, it will house zones for education, healthcare, hospitality, and R&D. Officials assert that this project redefines urban development by integrating “live, work, play, learn, and create,” aiming to attract global talent and investment through an innovation-first approach.
Bengaluru continues to lead India’s tech revolution with the Global Innovation Hub. Officials from Karnataka’s IT Department emphasised the platform’s role in uniting startups, academia, and industry for collaborative innovation. According to BACL’s Executive Director, District I is designed to enable entrepreneurs to build scalable solutions supported by world-class infrastructure.
As India’s startup ecosystem matures, hubs like District I will likely play a critical role in supporting high-growth sectors and aligning the country’s innovation agenda with global market demands. The move also reinforces Bengaluru’s role as a nerve centre for India’s tech-first urban growth strategy.
