Power Grid Approves Rupees 341.57 Crore for Transmission Upgrade
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) has approved an investment of ₹341.57 crore to improve electricity transmission in India. This investment will support two major projects aimed at strengthening the power supply network.
The first project is called the “Transmission scheme for evacuation of power from Ratle HEP (850 MW) & Kiru HEP (624 MW).” It is estimated to cost ₹218.55 crore and will help transfer power efficiently. This project is divided into two parts, with Part I costing ₹177.38 crore and Part II costing ₹41.17 crore.
It is expected to be completed by July 2026. The second project focuses on increasing the transformation capacity at Tumkur (Pavagada) 400/220kV Pooling Station in Karnataka. This includes installing two 500 MVA transformers and a 220kV line bay to improve renewable energy transmission. The estimated cost of this project is ₹123.02 crore, and it is set for completion by May 2026.
These upgrades are important for ensuring a reliable and stable electricity supply, especially as India’s demand for power continues to grow. By investing in transmission improvements, Power Grid aims to reduce power losses and support the increasing use of renewable energy. Despite this investment, Power Grid reported a 4.1% drop in net profit for the third quarter ending December 2024.
The company’s revenue also declined slightly compared to the previous year. However, these new projects show Power Grid’s commitment to strengthening India’s power infrastructure for the future.
