Noida and Greater Noida Ensure Smooth Water Supply for Holi
Noida and Greater Noida authorities are ensuring that residents can enjoy the celebrations without worrying about water shortages. With Holi festivities expected to increase water consumption, both regions have announced enhanced measures to guarantee uninterrupted water supply. A series of well-coordinated steps, including the commissioning of new Ranney wells and additional Ganga water supplies, have been implemented to ensure residents enjoy a smooth and refreshing festival.
In Noida, the water works department has ramped up daily water supply by nearly 31%, from the usual 320 million litres per day (mld) to an impressive 420 mld. This adjustment, according to RP Singh, general manager of the Noida authority’s water works department, will be in effect on Friday, coinciding with the festival’s peak consumption hours. Water will be provided for two hours in the morning and evening, as usual, with an additional slot in the afternoon to meet the anticipated surge. The decision to increase supply highlights the authority’s commitment to ensuring that the city’s residents are not inconvenienced by the higher water demand during the festival.
In an effort to further enhance supply, Noida has commissioned five new Ranney wells, which are expected to bolster the city’s groundwater resources. Additionally, the authority has arranged for the provision of 37 cusecs of Ganga water, a move that aims to ensure a steady and diverse source of water during the peak demand periods.
Meanwhile, in Greater Noida, the water supply schedule has been structured in three distinct slots: morning (7 am – 9.30 am), noon (12 pm – 4 pm), and evening (7 pm – 9.30 pm), to further ensure that water is evenly distributed and easily accessible throughout the day. Ravi Kumar NG, CEO of the Greater Noida Authority, stressed the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to use water judiciously during the festival. To address any issues of water shortages, emergency tanker services have been set up, ensuring that no resident is left without access to water during the festivities.
Prerna Singh, the additional CEO of Greater Noida, mentioned that the water department has been instructed to supply water three times on Holi, instead of the regular two-day slots. The proactive approach from both authorities has been appreciated by the public, especially as it eliminates concerns about potential disruptions during a festival where water usage tends to spike significantly.
