Direct Metro Link to Gandhinagar Begins on February 15
Starting from February 15, 2025, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) will launch a much-awaited direct metro train service between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. This new development aims to streamline travel between the two cities by offering direct connectivity, cutting down on travel time and the need for multiple train changes. Previously, passengers who wanted to travel between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar’s Sector-1 and Gift City had to change trains at either the Motera Stadium or the GNLU station. Now, with the introduction of this direct service, commuters can travel seamlessly between the two cities without any inconvenience.
The new metro service will operate from the APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) station in Ahmedabad to Sector-1 and Gift City in Gandhinagar. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) received approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety to increase the frequency of trains between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, making the commute more efficient and convenient for passengers. The direct metro service marks a significant milestone in improving transport connectivity in the region. Commuters travelling for work, business, or leisure will benefit greatly from the new service, as it offers a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel. The new metro line will cater to high-demand areas like the GIFT (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City), a rapidly developing business district that houses a variety of corporate offices and commercial spaces.
To further enhance accessibility, bus services will also be available at a 30-minute interval between the GNLU metro station and the offices in Gift City, passing through PDEU (Pandit Deendayal Energy University). This addition complements the metro service and ensures smoother, multi-modal connectivity for people commuting from different parts of the region. The new schedule will also be convenient for office-goers and other commuters. The last metro train from Gandhinagar will depart from Sector-1 at 07:21 pm, reaching Motera at 08:16 pm. Similarly, the last train from the Gift City station will depart at 06:55 pm and will arrive at Motera by 07:38 pm. These timings provide ample flexibility for people finishing their workday or attending evening events.
The introduction of this direct metro service is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce commute times, and provide a cleaner, more eco-friendly mode of transportation. With increasing urbanisation and the growth of business hubs like Gift City, such infrastructure improvements are crucial for keeping pace with the demands of modern city life. For many people in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the new metro link promises to be a game-changer, providing an affordable, efficient, and sustainable means of transportation. It not only offers comfort and reliability but also reinforces the importance of integrated urban planning to cater to the needs of a growing population. As the metro system continues to expand, there is hope that it will connect even more key destinations in Gujarat, further fostering economic growth and social connectivity.
