As the Gujarat government is considering measures to reduce groundwater use, industrial units in Ahmedabad may soon get treated sewage water for industrial use. Industrial units in Surat get treated sewage water, and units in Ahmedabad have also been demanding this system to increase the reuse of treated sewage water for industrial purposes.
The state government will promote water reuse, and as part of it, treated sewage water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) will be provided to industrial units. “Sustaining the environment is our responsibility towards future generations. At the same time, as Gujarat is fast progressing on the industrial path, all stakeholders must work together to find innovative solutions to balance these twin goals,” said CM Patel.
The Ahmedabad-based industrial units use more than 150 million ltr per day (mld), and this is all groundwater. Reuse of sewage water for industrial activities will reduce the use of groundwater.
