Mumbai Airport Ceiling Collapse Injures Visitor Outside Terminal 2

A visitor sustained minor injuries after a section of the false ceiling outside Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai collapsed on Sunday morning, airport authorities said. The visitor received immediate medical assistance from the airport’s emergency medical team.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mumbai airport operator CSMIA said a small section of the false ceiling outside Terminal 2 fell during the morning. The spokesperson confirmed that one visitor was injured in the incident and that the airport’s emergency medical team responded immediately.

“The airport’s emergency medical team responded immediately and provided the necessary assistance,” the CSMIA spokesperson said.

The incident occurred in an external area outside Terminal 2, one of the airport’s main passenger facilities. The airport authorities did not provide further details about the injured visitor, including the person’s identity or the precise circumstances in which the injury occurred.

The cause of the collapse was under investigation, according to the airport authorities. No details were immediately available on whether the affected section had shown any prior signs of damage or whether the area was temporarily restricted after the incident.

The collapse places attention on the maintenance and inspection of passenger-facing infrastructure at a major airport, where ceiling systems, access areas and other built elements are used daily by travellers, visitors and airport staff. In this case, the airport authority’s initial statement confirmed the injury, the emergency response and the ongoing investigation, but did not establish why the ceiling section fell.

CSMIA did not immediately provide additional information about the extent of the damage, the number of people in the area at the time, or any operational impact on Terminal 2. The next official update is expected to clarify the cause of the collapse and any safety measures taken around the affected section.
