A private double-decker bus travelling from Delhi to Ayodhya overturned on the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district on Sunday, injuring six passengers, including two children. The crash took place near the Bilgram area and prompted local residents and emergency teams to assist passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
The injured passengers were identified as Suraj, 27; Vivek Pandey, 64; Dhairya, one-and-a-half years; Hitash, five; Durgesh, 41; and Surendra, 32. All six are residents of Ayodhya district. Suraj was referred to Hardoi District Hospital after doctors found his condition serious.
According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling along the Bilgram stretch of the expressway when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been established, and officials were investigating the circumstances leading to the loss of control.
The accident caused panic among passengers, several of whom screamed for help as they attempted to get out of the overturned bus. Local residents who heard the crash reached the site and helped pull passengers from the vehicle before emergency response teams arrived.
Ambulances transported the injured to the Community Health Centre in Bilgram, where doctors provided initial treatment. Suraj was later moved to the district hospital for further care, while the other five injured passengers continued to receive treatment at the Bilgram facility.
The incident highlights the operational risks involved when high-capacity private buses use long intercity expressway routes, although the available information does not establish whether speed, a mechanical failure, road conditions or any other factor contributed to this crash. Authorities have not announced a final cause.
Further details about the accident and the condition of the injured passengers are awaited as the investigation continues.
