Uttar Pradesh election authorities will organise special voter registration camps at workplaces, residential societies, industrial establishments and construction sites across the state as part of preparations for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2027 ahead of the assembly elections.
Chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa has directed district election officers to coordinate with public and private sector enterprises, resident welfare associations (RWAs), trade unions, medical organisations, bar associations and civil defence volunteers to identify eligible citizens whose names are missing from electoral rolls.
The initiative is designed to reach groups that may be difficult to cover through conventional enrolment drives, including first-time voters, new residents in apartment complexes and housing societies, and employees at industrial establishments. District authorities have been asked to organise special camps at public sector undertakings and other workplaces to facilitate the enrolment of eligible employees.
RWAs will assist officials in identifying new residents and eligible voters in apartment complexes, residential colonies and other housing societies. Labour organisations will be involved in reaching workers employed in factories, industrial areas and construction sites, including contractual, daily-wage and unorganised workers.
The planned outreach also covers densely populated urban neighbourhoods and slum settlements. Civil defence volunteers will help identify eligible residents in these areas, while the Indian Medical Association, private hospitals, nursing homes and other medical institutions will organise registration camps and awareness programmes for their employees and associated communities.
The election authorities also plan to involve current and former village pradhans, municipal councillors, social workers and other prominent citizens in identifying eligible residents who remain outside the electoral rolls. District election officers have been instructed to coordinate with these groups and schedule camps on special campaign days and other suitable occasions.
The planned locations reflect the administrative challenge of maintaining electoral rolls in rapidly changing urban areas, where residents frequently move between cities, housing societies and employment sites. Construction workers and other informal-sector employees may also lack regular access to government offices, making workplace and site-based enrolment a direct extension of the election machinery’s outreach.
The camps will operate as part of SSR 2027, through which election authorities review and update electoral rolls. District-level coordination with employers, RWAs, labour bodies, healthcare institutions and community representatives will determine how the enrolment drive is implemented across Uttar Pradesh.
