Vidhana Soudha Laser Mapping Plan Faces Funding Uncertainty

The Greater Bengaluru Authority has drafted a proposal estimated at Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore to install a permanent laser mapping system at Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha, but the project’s funding and implementing agency have not yet been finalised.

The proposal envisages specialised equipment and associated hardware for audio-visual 3D projection mapping on the façade of the state legislature building. If approved, the system would enable regular light-and-sound shows on weekends and public holidays.

The state government is expected to fund the project, but it is unclear whether it will approve the estimated cost. The proposal has been prepared by the Greater Bengaluru Authority, which is responsible for coordinating several aspects of Bengaluru’s urban administration.

Laser shows have previously been organised on the Vidhana Soudha façade on select occasions using temporary arrangements. The new proposal would involve permanently installing the equipment needed for high-quality 3D projections, allowing the shows to be conducted without setting up a temporary system each time.

The proposal does not yet establish whether the Greater Bengaluru Authority or the Public Works Department will execute the project. That responsibility will determine which agency oversees the installation and subsequent operation of the permanent system.

Vidhana Soudha is one of Bengaluru’s most prominent public buildings and is regularly used as a backdrop for civic and state events. A permanent projection system would shift the laser shows from occasional programmes to a scheduled attraction linked to the building’s façade.

The proposal is still subject to approval, and the reported estimate remains between Rs 15 crore and Rs 20 crore. Further details on the funding allocation, procurement process, installation timeline and operating arrangements have not been made public in the supplied report.
