Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Vaishali on November 20 for a public programme where he may launch or lay the foundation for several Bihar development projects, including the proposed Patna-Purnia Expressway, according to state BJP leaders quoted by the Times of India.
The proposed National Expressway-9, described as Bihar’s first national expressway project, is planned as a six-lane greenfield corridor. It will begin at Mirnagar in Vaishali district and pass through Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa and Madhepura before ending at Chand Bhatti in Purnia district.
The details of the proposed visit and project programme were shared by BJP functionaries ahead of the planned event. The report said the Prime Minister was scheduled to participate in a public programme at the Jafarpatti Industrial Area in Vaishali, although the project launches were described as expected or likely rather than formally confirmed through a government notification.
Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi inspected the proposed venue and reviewed arrangements with officials. He also discussed logistical preparations and directed those involved in organising the programme to ensure its smooth conduct. BJP MLAs Awadhesh Singh and Sanjay Singh, along with Janata Dal (United) MLA Siddharth Patel, were present during the inspection.
The Patna-Purnia corridor would connect central and northern parts of Bihar through a route crossing several districts. The proposed alignment includes Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa and Madhepura, placing the expressway within a wider regional transport network linking Vaishali with Purnia in eastern Bihar.
The Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate or lay foundation stones for projects in Bhagalpur and Banka districts during the programme. These may include a proposed Central University near Vikramshila and the proposed Ajgaibinath Greenfield Airport near Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district.
Saraogi said the visit would provide fresh momentum to development initiatives in Bihar and help accelerate investment and infrastructure growth in the state. The source report did not provide the expressway’s construction cost, completion schedule, land-acquisition status, detailed interchange plan or traffic projections.
Further details about the final project list, the formal launch arrangements and the implementation timelines are expected to be clarified ahead of the proposed November 20 programme.
