A major traffic jam formed on the Modi Mill Flyover in South Delhi on Wednesday evening after the closure of the Kalkaji Flyover increased pressure on surrounding roads during ongoing construction work. Long queues of vehicles were reported on the flyover, with traffic moving slowly and commuters facing delays on routes towards Nehru Place, Okhla and Lajpat Nagar.
The disruption is linked to construction work to connect the Kalkaji Flyover with the extension of the Modi Mill Flyover on the Outer Ring Road. The Kalkaji Flyover has been closed for the work, pushing additional traffic onto nearby roads and access routes around Modi Mill.
According to the report by Jagran, vehicles travelling from Modi Mill towards Nehru Place are being diverted through the service lane. Drivers must also cross the traffic signal on Maa Anandmayi Marg, adding another movement point to a route already carrying traffic affected by the flyover closure.
The changed traffic movement has also increased pressure on roads leading towards Okhla and Lajpat Nagar. The resulting queues have affected both vehicles using the flyover and commuters travelling through the surrounding road network. Traffic on the flyover was reported to be crawling during the evening congestion.
The construction project has created a direct link between the disruption on the Kalkaji Flyover and the congestion at Modi Mill. With one flyover closed and adjoining routes handling diverted traffic, vehicles are being forced to use service lanes and signal-controlled junctions instead of moving through the usual elevated connection.
The affected corridor is an important movement route in South Delhi, connecting areas including Modi Mill, Kalkaji, Nehru Place, Okhla and Lajpat Nagar. The traffic pressure reported on Wednesday shows how a closure at one elevated road can quickly spread to adjoining junctions and local access routes when alternative capacity is limited.
The immediate disruption was reported on Wednesday evening, November 4, as construction activity continued. The supplied report did not specify the expected completion date for the connection work, the duration of the Kalkaji Flyover closure or any additional traffic-management measures beyond the service-lane diversion.
Traffic conditions are expected to remain dependent on the ongoing construction and the movement arrangements around the closed flyover. Further updates on the project schedule, reopening of the Kalkaji Flyover and any revised diversions would determine when normal movement can resume on the affected corridor.
