KTR Opposes Miyapur Land Monetisation, Seeks 550 Acres for Activists

BRS working president KT Rama Rao has urged Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to allocate 550 acres of Miyapur land to Telangana movement activists and the families of statehood martyrs, challenging the government’s reported plans to monetise the land and develop a colony in Erravelli.

Rama Rao made the demand at a meeting where Congress workers from the Serilingampally Assembly constituency, including senior Hydernagar leader Damodar Reddy, joined the BRS. He referred to the Congress election manifesto’s reported promise to allot 250 square yards to Telangana movement activists and asked whether the government would implement that commitment if land was now available in Miyapur.

“ If land has now become available in Miyapur, and if you are sincere, will you allocate plots to all those who worked for the Telangana movement?” Rama Rao asked, according to the report. He said the government should construct high-quality homes for martyrs’ families in Miyapur rather than locate them in Erravelli, which he said was about 70 km from Hyderabad.

Rama Rao questioned the proposed Erravelli colony on location and political grounds. He alleged that the plan was influenced by the fact that former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao lives in Erravelli and that the village has become a centre of Telangana politics. These claims were made by Rama Rao at the political meeting and were not accompanied in the report by a response from the state government.

The Miyapur land debate also includes a proposal to use 100 acres in Hyderabad for housing towers for economically weaker sections. Rama Rao said the BRS would not oppose such a plan and suggested that any remaining land could be reserved for public institutions, including schools and colleges. His proposed allocation would divide the available land among poor households, Telangana movement activists and martyrs’ families, while retaining a portion for civic and educational uses.

The demand places the future use of Miyapur land at the intersection of beneficiary housing, public facilities and government revenue generation. The location is within Hyderabad’s expanding urban area, making the choice between direct allotment, institutional use, housing construction and monetisation significant for land-use planning as well as for the groups named by the BRS leader.

Rama Rao also warned industrialists against participating in what he called the “HILT Policy scam”. He claimed that a future BRS government would review land transactions undertaken by the present administration and stop what he described as questionable dealings. The report did not provide details of the alleged transactions or record a response from the government to the accusation.

The immediate next step for the Miyapur parcels, including whether the government will proceed with monetisation, allocate land for housing or reserve sites for public institutions, remains to be clarified by the Telangana administration.
