Mizoram Sets Rs 16 Lakh Per Capita Income Target by 2047

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has set a target of raising the state’s per capita income to Rs 16 lakh and increasing its contribution to India’s GDP from 0.1% to 1% by 2047, while announcing a package of measures to expand entrepreneurship, local manufacturing and access to finance.

Lalduhoma announced the targets while speaking at the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit 2026 in Aizawl, organised by the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Chamber. He said the state government was working to transform Mizoram across sectors under its 2047 vision, with efforts beginning at the grassroots level.

The government is supporting agriculture-linked economic activity through support prices for several agricultural products and crop and livestock insurance schemes, according to the chief minister. These measures are intended to support farmers and create a stronger base for enterprises that process locally produced agricultural goods.

Lalduhoma also highlighted Bana Kaih, the chief minister’s Special Package, which provides assistance to people seeking to start small businesses or expand existing enterprises. A separate loan component is available for larger ventures. He said support was being provided only to deserving projects and without favouritism or discrimination, adding that no beneficiary who had received a loan had defaulted on repayment so far.

The government is also promoting innovation through an Innovation Facility Centre, Innovation Awards, a venture capital fund for start-ups and the Mizoram Start-Up Mission. The chief minister said the micro, small and medium enterprises sector was gaining momentum, with young entrepreneurs setting up food-processing units using agricultural products grown in the state.

Several permits have been issued this year to entrepreneurs interested in producing fruit beer from locally grown fruits, Lalduhoma said. He encouraged young people to study the government’s entrepreneurship initiatives and urged consumers to support locally made products, arguing that purchases of goods made in Mizoram would directly strengthen local producers.

To support local manufacturing, the government has introduced the Mizoram Preferential Store Purchase Rule. The policy is intended to maximise the use of products made within the state. A Made by Mizo kiosk was also opened in Delhi in August to promote Mizo products outside Mizoram.

Access to finance remains a central part of the government’s economic strategy. Lalduhoma said the government considered establishing its own bank important for enabling local entrepreneurs to obtain loans more conveniently and quickly. A committee has already been constituted to examine the proposal, and the government intends to take it forward towards implementation.

The summit’s inaugural session was chaired by C Lalpekliana, vice-president of the Mizoram Entrepreneurs’ Chamber. MEC president Joseph L Ralte said the event was intended to expose young people to entrepreneurship and encourage more of them to enter business. He also said Mizoram’s progressive Industrial and Investment Policy had made entrepreneurship an increasingly promising avenue in the state.
