Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee has approved four civic infrastructure projects worth Rs 23.94 crore, including stormwater drainage works in Kondapur, Kukatpally and Chandanagar aimed at reducing waterlogging in parts of Hyderabad.
The approvals were granted at a committee meeting chaired by Sarfaraz Ahmad, secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development for HMDA limits, and special officer. CMC commissioner G Srijana placed the proposals before the committee.
One of the approved projects involves remodelling stormwater drains between Nerella Lake and Mundi Kunta Lake at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The work is intended to prevent waterlogging near Santosh Dhaba in Kondapur, an area covered by the corporation’s civic drainage network.
The committee also cleared the remodelling of an existing drain between Durgam Cheruvu and Malkam Cheruvu in Kukatpally Zone. The project has been estimated at Rs 5.95 crore. The proposal concerns an existing drainage link between two water bodies and is intended to improve the movement of stormwater through the zone.
A separate stormwater drain behind Sri Devi Theatre in Chandanagar, within Serilingampally Zone, was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 5.99 crore. The project will add drainage infrastructure in an area where the corporation has identified a need for improved stormwater management.
Together, the three named works account for Rs 17.94 crore of the approved package. The report did not provide details of the fourth civic project included in the total approval of Rs 23.94 crore.
The projects are being taken up against the continuing need to manage stormwater across rapidly urbanising parts of Cyberabad. Drainage works in the approved locations involve both new construction and the remodelling of existing channels, indicating that the municipal response includes strengthening current infrastructure as well as adding new links.
The Standing Committee approval is an administrative step in the civic project process. The supplied report did not specify construction start dates, tender deadlines, execution agencies or completion schedules for the works. Further implementation details will determine when the approved drainage improvements reach the affected localities.
