Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has appointed ward-wise nodal officers to oversee road sweeping, garbage removal and door-to-door waste collection across the Malkajgiri, Uppal and LB Nagar zones, with the order taking immediate effect.
Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy issued the orders on Tuesday to strengthen sanitation management, field supervision and official accountability, according to a press release. The arrangement covers all circles under the three zones and assigns officers responsibility for monitoring sanitation conditions at ward level alongside their existing duties.
The designated officers have been instructed to ensure the immediate resolution of sanitation shortcomings, including garbage accumulation and complaints related to waste management. They will coordinate with the respective circle and zonal officials while supervising the implementation of the corporation’s sanitation instructions.
Garbage Vulnerable Points, where waste accumulation is identified as a recurring concern, will receive special monitoring under the order. The officers are expected to track these locations and work with the relevant officials to prevent the build-up of waste.
The move places ward-level officers at the centre of the corporation’s response to sanitation complaints. Instead of relying only on zonal or circle-level supervision, the arrangement creates designated points of responsibility for routine services such as sweeping, garbage removal and household waste collection.
The order also directs zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners to continuously review the performance of the appointed nodal officers. Their role will include ensuring that the instructions are implemented effectively across the corporation’s circles and that sanitation-related shortcomings are addressed.
The press release did not specify the number of officers appointed, the wards covered individually, the frequency of inspections or a performance reporting format. It also did not provide a separate timeline for resolving complaints or details of additional sanitation staff and equipment.
For residents, the immediate focus of the arrangement will be whether waste collection, road sweeping and responses to garbage complaints become more consistent at ward level. The corporation’s order makes the nodal officers responsible for coordinating responses, while placing ongoing review with zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners.
The appointments have come into force immediately. Further implementation will depend on the ward-wise officers coordinating with circle and zonal officials and on the review mechanism directed by the commissioner.
