Ahmedabad Trains to Get Cheaper Fares From January 2027

Passengers travelling on six trains through Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat are set to receive lower fares from January 2027 after the railway administration decided to move the services from the Superfast category to the regular Express category. The change will remove the Superfast surcharge and reduce ticket prices by between ₹15 and ₹75, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.

The fare revision will apply across classes, including Sleeper and air-conditioned coaches. The affected trains will also operate under new train numbers once they are reclassified as Express services. The report said the decision would benefit thousands of passengers using these services for travel through Ahmedabad and other stations in the state.

One of the identified services is the daily Jodhpur–Hadapsar–Jodhpur Superfast Express, which passes through Sabarmati railway station in Ahmedabad. Train numbers 20495 and 20496 will be changed to 14809 and 14810, respectively, from 3 January 2027. The service will run as an Express train after the change.

The reclassification is expected to reduce the fare by removing the additional charge applied to Superfast services. The report said the fare reduction on the affected trains would range from ₹15 to ₹75 per ticket, depending on the class of travel and the applicable fare structure. The lower fare will therefore be reflected in both non-air-conditioned and air-conditioned travel categories.

For the Jodhpur–Hadapsar service, the railway administration has said that the change will not alter the existing operating schedule, route or station stoppages. Passengers using the service will continue to travel between the same locations, with the principal changes being the revised service category, new train numbers and lower fares.

The wider change is expected to cover six Superfast trains running through Ahmedabad and elsewhere in Gujarat. The report identifies the Jodhpur–Hadapsar service as one of the affected trains and states that four Western Railway services will undergo number and fare changes from 1 January 2027, while the Jodhpur–Hadapsar service is specifically scheduled for reclassification from 3 January 2027.

Passengers will need to check the revised train numbers when booking journeys after the implementation dates, particularly where reservation systems display services by their new numbers. The removal of the Superfast surcharge will be applied through the railway fare system once each service is moved to the Express category.

The changes are scheduled to begin in January 2027, with the Jodhpur–Hadapsar–Jodhpur service adopting its new numbers and Express classification from 3 January. The remaining reported train-number and fare revisions are scheduled to take effect from 1 January 2027.
