Ahmedabad train fares are set to fall from January 2027 after six superfast services passing through Gujarat are converted to ordinary express services, removing the additional superfast surcharge from passenger tickets. The change will reduce fares by between ₹15 and ₹75, depending on the class of travel and journey.
The railway administration has decided to move the services from the superfast category to the express category. The revised fares will apply to passengers travelling in classes ranging from sleeper to air-conditioned accommodation, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.
One of the services identified in the report is the daily Jodhpur–Hadapsar–Jodhpur Superfast Express, which passes through Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati railway station. Train numbers 20495 and 20496 will be changed to 14809 and 14810 from 3 January 2027, after the service is reclassified as an express train.
The report said that the Jodhpur–Hadapsar service will retain its existing route, stops and operating schedule. The change will therefore affect the fare structure and train numbers, but not the announced timetable or the listed stations served by the train.
The removal of the superfast surcharge is expected to benefit passengers using the Ahmedabad section as well as travellers on other parts of the route. The direct reduction will vary according to the ticket class and the distance travelled, with the reported savings ranging from ₹15 to ₹75 per ticket.
The change is part of a wider Western Railway exercise involving four trains whose numbers and fares will be revised from 1 January 2027. The report said that six trains passing through Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat will ultimately operate as express services, with the revised train numbers being used alongside the lower fares.
For passengers, the practical consequence will be a lower ticket price on services that currently include a superfast charge. However, travellers will need to check the revised train numbers before booking journeys in January, particularly where the same service is listed under separate numbers for different directions.
The Jodhpur–Hadapsar–Jodhpur service is scheduled to adopt its new numbers from 3 January 2027. The wider fare and numbering changes for the identified Western Railway services are scheduled to begin from 1 January 2027, according to the report.
