Baramati Rainfall Floods Roads as 158 mm Falls Overnight

Baramati recorded 158 mm of rainfall by 7 am after an intense overnight spell on November 2, flooding low-lying areas and leaving several city roads with knee-deep water. The rainfall, described by local officials as unusually heavy for the city, also brought relief to residents and farmers facing the effects of water scarcity.

Baramati tehsildar Swapnil Rawade confirmed the rainfall total. The downpour began in the early hours and intensified sharply, continuing with high intensity for around two-and-a-half to three hours. Rainfall remained heavy in the city until about 8.30 am, affecting normal daily activity.

The rainfall was severe enough to leave water pooled across low-lying parts of Baramati. Several roads reportedly had knee-deep water, while the speed and volume of the runoff meant that there was insufficient space for the water to drain away quickly.

The event exposed the immediate impact that intense rainfall can have on the city’s roads and low-lying areas. The report did not provide details of damage to buildings, traffic restrictions, casualties or emergency measures by civic authorities. It also did not specify whether the waterlogging had receded after the rain eased.

The rainfall was significant because Baramati does not usually receive such a large volume of rain in a short period, according to the report. Residents had been speaking about the need for rain in recent days as the city faced the prospect of water scarcity. The overnight spell therefore offered relief even as it disrupted movement and daily routines.

The rainfall also provided some relief to farmers, with the report describing it as beneficial for the agricultural community. However, the sharp contrast between water scarcity concerns and rapid urban waterlogging highlights the pressure placed on the city’s drainage capacity when heavy rain arrives in a concentrated spell.

As of about 8.30 am, the rain remained strong in Baramati and its effects on daily life were continuing. The available report did not include a subsequent official update on drainage, road conditions, damage assessment or further rainfall forecasts.
