A construction wall collapse near the Shayona Tilak 3, 4 and 5 flats in Ahmedabad’s Gota area triggered panic among residents on Sunday morning, after deep excavation at an adjacent residential construction site caused part of the protection wall and nearby ground to give way. No fatalities were reported in the incident, according to Divya Bhaskar.
The collapse occurred near Park View, a residential building project being developed close to Aagman Party Plot on Vandematram Road. The protection wall had been constructed along the boundary of the construction site beside the existing Shayona Tilak flats. Residents heard a loud sound when the wall collapsed and moved out of the building as a precaution.
The report said the collapse affected the portion of the flat-side wall facing the construction site. Ground inside the residential premises also subsided, with the damaged area extending up to the vicinity of the building’s pillars. The condition of the affected structure and the extent of any continuing risk were not detailed in the report.
Residents informed the fire brigade after the incident. Two fire brigade vehicles reached the site, according to the report. The available account did not mention any rescue operation, injuries or evacuation order issued by the civic authorities.
The incident took place while underground construction work was reportedly under way at the Park View site. Divya Bhaskar reported, citing sources, that deep excavation for the underground portion of the project preceded the collapse of the protection wall and the adjoining ground. The report also said residents expressed anger over what they described as negligence by the builder and concerns about the safety of the ongoing work.
Protection walls and excavation support systems are intended to prevent soil movement from affecting adjoining structures during underground construction. In this case, the collapse occurred next to occupied flats, bringing the immediate safety of residents and the management of construction interfaces in built-up neighbourhoods into focus. However, the available report did not establish the technical cause of the failure or identify any formal finding by a municipal, fire or structural-safety authority.
The report did not provide details about the project’s approval status, the depth of excavation, the design of the protection wall, whether a structural engineer had inspected the site, or whether work was stopped after the collapse. It also did not include a response from the builder or a formal statement from Ahmedabad’s civic administration. Further action by the relevant authorities and any structural assessment of the affected flats will determine the next steps.
