Bengaluru Police have issued Deepavali safety guidelines for residents, asking them to use certified green crackers, follow the permitted 8 pm to 10 pm window and avoid fireworks near hospitals, fuel stations, religious places and other sensitive locations.
The police said residents should follow the Supreme Court-prescribed timing while taking precautions during the festival. Fireworks should not be used in crowded areas, on main roads, near parked vehicles or in locations where people gather. Residents have been advised to choose open grounds and areas with fewer people, while ensuring that safety measures are in place.
The guidelines identify hospitals, petrol pumps, gas stations, religious places, old-age homes and childcare centres as sensitive areas where fireworks should not be burst. The police have also asked residents not to buy prohibited crackers that create excessive noise and air pollution.
Residents purchasing green crackers have been advised to scan the QR code printed on the packaging to verify them. The police have warned people against buying fireworks from unauthorised shops and asked them to inform the nearest police station or call 112 if they notice illegal sales.
The safety instructions also cover the handling of fireworks. People have been advised to wear gloves and protective eyewear and keep water, sand and fire extinguishers nearby. Children should not be allowed to light crackers alone, and parents should remain with them and supervise the activity. The police have also asked residents to avoid synthetic, nylon and polyester clothing while bursting fireworks.
The advisory asks residents to remain considerate of senior citizens, people with illnesses, students and animals, who may be affected by loud explosions. Residents have been encouraged to use low-noise green crackers and take precautions to reduce disturbance to animals.
In case of an accident, residents should immediately contact emergency numbers 112 or 108 and seek medical advice, the police said. After fireworks are over, people have also been asked to clean public grounds, roads and the areas outside their homes.
The guidelines come as Bengaluru prepares for the Deepavali celebrations. The police have asked residents to follow the specified timing, use verified products and report unsafe or illegal fireworks activity through the designated emergency and police channels.
