Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials jointly inspected Begumpet on Saturday to clarify jurisdictional boundaries and improve coordination in sanitation, waste collection and other civic services.
MMC Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy and senior GHMC officials took part in the inspection. According to a press release, establishing clarity over the administrative boundaries is expected to help the two civic bodies coordinate service delivery in areas where responsibilities may otherwise overlap or remain unclear.
The inspection covered Begumpet and associated public infrastructure, with officials examining issues linked to municipal operations and the use of spaces beneath flyovers. The jurisdictional exercise is significant because sanitation, waste collection and maintenance responsibilities depend on clearly defined administrative limits and coordination between the agencies operating in adjoining parts of Hyderabad.
Reddy also directed MMC Urban Biodiversity officials to expedite greenery restoration and landscaping beneath the Begumpet flyover. Officials were asked to remove unnecessary materials, debris and other obstructions along the median as part of the work.
The directions extend beyond beautification. Clearing materials and debris from the median and areas beneath the flyover is intended to improve the condition and usability of the public space, while the proposed greenery restoration would bring the neglected areas under a more organised maintenance plan. The press release did not specify the area covered, the landscaping design, the project cost or a completion date.
At the Fatehnagar flyover, Reddy ordered the removal of disused shops, unwanted materials and other obstructions beneath the structure. The space is to be developed for public use, although the statement did not provide details on the proposed facilities, operating agency or implementation schedule.
Officials were also asked to prepare proposals for road construction and repairs on both sides of the Fatehnagar flyover. The stated objective is to facilitate smoother traffic movement in the area. The proposals will need to establish the locations requiring work, the nature of the repairs and the timeline for execution, none of which was specified in the announcement.
The inspection therefore combines three immediate municipal tasks: defining the service boundary between MMC and GHMC, removing obstructions from public infrastructure spaces, and preparing roadwork proposals. The next steps identified by the civic administration are the preparation of these road proposals, the removal of unwanted materials and the acceleration of greenery restoration beneath the Begumpet flyover.
