Pune Crematoriums Secure Year-Long LPG Supply After Rs 1 Crore Nod

Pune crematoriums will receive uninterrupted LPG supplies for the next year after the Pune Municipal Corporation’s standing committee approved a tender worth nearly Rs 1 crore for gas cremation facilities across the city. The decision is intended to keep the crematoria operational and ensure that fuel remains available for families using the civic service.

According to a report by Pudhari, the approved tender is valued at Rs 99,72,448. The LPG cylinders will be supplied to gas crematoria in seven burial and cremation grounds located within the municipal corporation’s fourth and fifth administrative circles. The locations named in the report include Hadapsar, Katraj, Wanawadi, Ganganagar, Vaikunth and Mundhwa.

The municipal corporation’s electrical department had initiated the procurement process because the gas crematoria require a regular fuel supply to function. The tender was prepared with an estimated value of Rs 99,97,442 and published on 21 February 2026. Two suppliers responded to the tender, the report said.

The final amount paid to the supplier will not necessarily remain fixed at the tender estimate. LPG cylinder prices are determined periodically by the central government, and the municipal corporation will pay the supplier according to the applicable rate in the month in which the cylinders are delivered. This means the corporation’s actual expenditure may change in line with market-linked prices.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has also made a provision of Rs 3.60 crore in its 2026-27 budget for purchasing LPG cylinders for gas crematoria. Of this allocation, around Rs 1 crore is expected to be used for fuel for the seven crematoria covered by the approved procurement.

The civic administration is separately preparing a development project for Vaikunth crematorium, one of the city’s key cremation facilities. A detailed project report has been prepared for repairs to the crematorium shed, concreting at required locations, improvements to toilets and upgrades to water-supply facilities. The administration is expected to issue a tender for these works shortly.

The standing committee was also informed that the remaining works at the Ambegaon crematorium are planned to be completed within the next two months. The LPG procurement and the proposed facility upgrades represent separate civic actions: one is aimed at maintaining the day-to-day operation of gas crematoria, while the other concerns the physical condition and public amenities at cremation grounds.

The approved LPG supply will now proceed according to the tender and delivery process, while the Vaikunth crematorium improvement works await the proposed tender publication.
