Hyderabad Water Supply Disruption to Hit Key Areas for 36 Hours

A 36-hour Hyderabad water supply disruption will affect several neighbourhoods from 6 am on November 3 to 6 pm on November 4 as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board repairs major leakages in the Gandipet conduit.

The repair work will be carried out near Sabza Colony, Tolichowki and Manikonda, according to a press release issued by HMWSSB. The board said the work will begin on November 3 and continue through November 4.

The shutdown will affect areas in the HMWSSB’s Golconda Zone, including Red Hills, Nampally, Mallepally, Sitarambagh, Godeki Khabar, Hindi Nagar, the Assembly area, Secretariat, New MLA Quarters, Adarsh Nagar, the Nampally South Central Railway area, Gunfoundry, Chintal Basti, Vijayanagar Colony, Old Mallepally, Asif Nagar and Ahmed Nagar.

The disruption will also extend to Domalguda and other areas under the Kavadiguda and Gandhinagar wards in Kavadiguda Circle. The Banjara Hills ward in Jubilee Hills Circle is included in the affected area list as well.

The affected locations span residential neighbourhoods, government and institutional areas, railway-adjacent areas and major urban corridors. The notified shutdown therefore covers more than a single local pocket and may affect household water storage, commercial activity and the daily operations of institutions in the listed areas during the repair period.

HMWSSB attributed the interruption to repairs of major leakages in the Gandipet conduit. The conduit is part of the water-supply network serving Hyderabad, and the planned shutdown is intended to allow the board to undertake the repair work at the identified locations. The release did not provide details of the volume of water affected, the number of consumers covered or the expected restoration sequence for individual neighbourhoods.

The board has urged consumers in the affected areas to use water sparingly. Residents and establishments that depend on the notified supply network will need to plan for the interruption between the start of the work at 6 am on November 3 and the stated completion time of 6 pm on November 4.

HMWSSB’s schedule identifies a 36-hour repair window. The next formal milestone for affected consumers is the completion of the conduit repairs and restoration of drinking-water supply by the end of the notified period, subject to the board’s repair schedule.
