A Central Secretariat section officer and his only son died after falling from a balcony at Mahagun Mywoods society in Greater Noida West, while police examine CCTV footage to establish how the incident occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Randeep Patra, who worked as a section officer in the Central Secretariat in Delhi, and his son Aarav. Randeep’s wife, Amrita Shrimani, is also a section officer in the Central Secretariat. The family lived together in the residential society, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.
Bisrakh police said Amrita told them that she was getting ready in her room when the incident took place and did not immediately know what had happened. When she later went to the balcony, she did not see her husband and son. Residents informed her that the two had fallen. Police said she then tried to jump from the balcony but was stopped after people at the spot intervened and persuaded her not to do so.
According to the account given to police, the family had planned to travel to Khatu Shyam on Friday for a land registration and had intended to visit the temple. Plants and vines had been placed on the balcony, with the vines extending upwards along the grill. Randeep and Aarav were reportedly picking flowers for the planned temple visit using a small ladder.
Police said Aarav was on the ladder and may have slipped while trying to pick flowers above him. Randeep is reported to have fallen while attempting to save his son. The two were found on the roof of the society’s clubhouse after residents heard two loud sounds. A resident who looked out of a window saw them and shared the information on the society’s WhatsApp group, after which people gathered at the spot and identified the father and son.
The precise sequence of the falls has not yet been established. Police are reviewing CCTV footage. The report said residents and the family have suggested that the ladder may have slipped, causing Aarav to fall and Randeep to follow while trying to rescue him. Other residents have raised a different possibility about the circumstances, but police have not confirmed that account. The investigation remains ongoing.
The incident comes amid several reported falls from residential societies in the Greater Noida area this month. A student died after falling from the 19th floor of Pristine Avenue in Gaur City 2 on October 29, while an eighth-grade student died after falling from the 12th floor of Design Arch society on October 24. A young man died after falling from the 21st floor of Centurion Park Tropical Garden on October 13, and another man died after falling from the third floor of First Avenue in Gaur City 1 on October 5.
Police are expected to use the CCTV footage and statements from residents and family members to determine the circumstances of the deaths. No final conclusion on the sequence of events has been reported.
