Bengaluru Hotel Pool Deaths Put Luxury Venue Safety Under Probe

Two European citizens staying at Bengaluru’s Conrad hotel died after a suspected electrocution incident at the property’s swimming pool, while two people who attempted a rescue were injured, police said. The incident took place on Friday evening at the pool on the hotel’s third floor in Halasuru.

The deceased were nationals of Germany and Slovakia. Bengaluru police have not disclosed their names. The circumstances surrounding the suspected electrocution have not been established, and the case remains under investigation.

A United States national staying at the hotel and an Indian pool attendant were injured while trying to rescue the two victims, according to a senior police officer. Both were taken to Manipal Hospital for treatment and were reported to be out of danger.

The incident places immediate attention on safety systems around swimming pools in hotels and other commercial buildings, including electrical installations and emergency response arrangements. However, police have not yet identified the source of the suspected electrical fault or stated whether any equipment or installation failed.

The pool is located on the third floor of the five-star hotel in Halasuru, an established central Bengaluru neighbourhood with a concentration of commercial, hospitality and residential properties. The incident involved hotel guests as well as an employee who intervened during the rescue attempt.

Police have registered a case and begun further investigation. The inquiry is expected to establish how the suspected electrocution occurred, examine the circumstances of the deaths and injuries, and determine the relevant safety and operational facts at the hotel pool.
