LDA Survey Puts Lucknow Nazul Land Claim Under Official Review

The Lucknow Development Authority has carried out an Electronic Total Station survey of the house and adjoining land linked to triple-murder accused Rishabh Shukla to determine whether the property or any part of its construction stands on Nazul land.

LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar said officials measured the plot and structures using an ETS machine, which is used for precise land mapping and boundary verification. The survey is intended to establish the exact extent of the property and clarify its status against government land records.

The action follows allegations by the victims’ family that Shukla’s house, along with a boundary wall, had been built on government land. The LDA had earlier demolished a portion of the boundary wall after determining that it encroached on the road.

Nazul land generally refers to government-owned land that may be placed under lease or managed through public authorities. Establishing whether a private structure occupies such land requires a comparison of physical boundaries with revenue and ownership records. In this case, officials said the ETS measurements would be reviewed alongside the relevant land and revenue documents.

Kumar said the survey would help establish the actual status of the land and that any further action would be taken according to the applicable rules. The exercise does not, by itself, establish that the house or adjoining structures have encroached on Nazul land.

The LDA has not announced the outcome of the survey. A decision on any further demolition, action against construction or other measures will depend on the findings from the survey and the subsequent examination of official records.
