Delhi Cylinder Blast Injures Firefighter During Jahangirpuri Fire

A firefighter was injured after an LPG cylinder exploded inside a house in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Friday while emergency personnel were responding to a fire, officials said. The injured firefighter, identified as Ankit, suffered burns over up to 25% of his body and was first taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital before being referred to the burn ward at AIIMS.

The fire was reported from a house in E-Block, Jahangirpuri. According to a Delhi Fire Service official, the department received information about the incident at 11:23 am and sent three fire tenders to the location. Firefighters began operations to control the blaze inside the house.

Delhi Police said the fire involved household goods and an LPG cylinder on the ground floor. The cylinder exploded during the response, injuring Assistant Fire Officer Ankit, who is associated with the Jahangirpuri fire station. He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for immediate treatment.

A doctor on duty at the hospital assessed the firefighter as having suffered burns over approximately 25% of his body. He was later referred to AIIMS for further treatment in the burns ward. The available report did not provide details about his condition after the referral.

The incident caused panic in the neighbourhood as residents gathered around the affected house and emergency vehicles reached the area. Three fire tenders were deployed to deal with the blaze, according to the fire service account supplied in the report.

The cause of the fire had not been established when the report was published. Delhi Police said the circumstances surrounding the fire and the LPG cylinder explosion were being investigated. The authorities have not reported any additional injuries among residents or other emergency personnel.

The incident highlights the immediate risks faced by firefighters when fires spread to residential spaces containing cooking-gas cylinders and other household materials. However, the authorities had not yet issued a detailed assessment of the cause of the fire, the condition of the house or the extent of property damage.

The investigation will determine how the fire started and the circumstances in which the LPG cylinder exploded. Further details are expected from the Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Police as the inquiry progresses.
